The Rock River Environmental Services organization was committed to preserving and protecting the environment long before it was considered the right thing to do. Rock River Environmental Services is looked to as the state model for fostering the green movement with our landfill gas-to-energy technology. We constructed a gas-to-energy plant at Winnebago Landfill that generates enough electricity to power 10 percent of the homes in the City of Rockford. From using reclaimed oil to heat buildings and fire asphalt plants, to building and maintaining hundreds of acres of wetlands and open spaces, we are engaged in a wide variety of green activities. We use recapped tires; recycle vehicle and equipment filters; and annually recycle approximately 50,000 tons of asphalt, savings approximately 2,400 gallons of oil. Rock River Environmental Solutions has converted dozens of commercial and industrial brown fields into productive reuse. And we continue to actively explore new sustainable energy technologies on the horizon, such as geothermal energy, solar energy, wind energy and gasification.
