From the start, Rock River Valley Compost’s goal has been to lead the way in residential and commercial recycling and disposal. We accomplish this through composting – the transformation of organic material (plant matter) through decomposition into a soil-like material called compost.Composting is a natural form of recycling, which continually occurs in nature. After the yard waste is ground at our facility, it is deposited in windrows where it goes through the composting cycle. Once the finished compost is screened, it is sold to and widely used by home gardeners and landscape professionals.

LOCATIONS Located at 6200 Baxter Road in Cherry Valley, Illinois; five miles south of Rockford and just east of Mulford Road. Get Directions [1] HOURS OF OPERATION Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-4:30 pm, generally from the first week of April through the first week of December. Closed for major holidays. We are open on the Saturday following a major holiday, 7:00 am to noon. RESTRICTIONS Only yard waste and landscape waste in approved landscape waste bags or bulk – no plastic bagged material, no material larger than six to eight inches in diameter and longer than six to eight feet in length.  No rocks, fencing, manufactured wood products, such as colored mulch, railroad ties, or landscaping timbers.  No sod or dirt accepted. RATES $10.00 minimum for the first 400lbs. and then .025¢ a pound for each additional pound. We make and sell natural compost for .01¢ per pound and natural mulch for $12.50 per yard.
