The Winnebago Landfill expansion will play an integral
role in supporting our local economy
- Safe and responsible disposal of our solid waste is an
essential part of making our communities clean, enjoyable
and well-managed.
- Taxes and other fees will generate over $1.2 million annually
for over 20-plus years for the county and local communities.
- The Winnebago Landfill employs 12 to 15 people. There
will be seasonal
construction jobs for the expansion. The combination of
regular payroll, seasonal construction payroll and purchases
of equipment, goods and services translates into over $4
million generated annually for businesses and municipalities.
- The landfill staff provides tours and speakers for schools
and community groups. The company also donates to local
non-profit groups to support their missions throughout the
area.
- The Winnebago Landfill is locally owned and has been safely
and efficiently servicing the region for almost 35 years
without incident.
- The Winnebago Landfill is an integral part of Winnebago
County. We are proud of what we do. The company is not owned
by a foreign conglomerate or large out-of-state corporation.
The company is local, responsible and approachable.
Benefits of Being Local
Winnebago Reclamation Service runs the Winnebago Landfill.
It is a local company doing business on Baxter Road since
1972.
- The Winnebago Landfill has sponsored tables and/or gives
donations to many local charities. For example: Earth Day
celebrations, Rock River Sweep clean-up efforts, Rockford’s
clean-up for America in Bloom competition in 2005, Patriot’s
Gateway Youth Wresting Tourney, On the Waterfront, MELD
Annual Dinner, Leukemia & Lymphoma Walk for Life, Salvation
Army Thanksgiving Dinner Program and local volunteer fire
fighters in New Milford and other rural Winnebago County
locations.
- We have speakers who regularly talk to school groups around
the county about the solid waste industry, recycling, etc.
We give tours to schools of the landfill – usually
about 6 to 8 in a year.
- The charitable arm of William Charles is the Howard Charitable
Trust. Since it began giving grants in 1983, the Trust has
given $3.6 million to charities -- all located in Winnebago
County. Recently annual donations have ranged form $130,000
to $180,000. The agencies include the Boys and Girls Clubs,
RocVale Children’s Home, Walter Lawson Children’s
Home, the YMCA After School Programs, Goldie Floberg, Ken-Rock
Community Center, Booker Washington Community Center and
Barbara Olson School of Hope.
- Our employees are encouraged to participate in the community
by being on non-profit boards and committees. That participation
usually means the company will pay for a table at the charity’s
special event and that the employee writes his/her own personal
check to support the agency. Many of our employees also
serve on local school boards, church councils; they are
soccer coaches, tutors and volunteers. We are part of the
community.
- William Charles employs over 700 people with a portion
of that being union seasonal construction jobs. We are one
of the largest locally-owned companies in the area.
The Winnebago Landfill and the William Charles organization
make a significant impact on the quality of life in Winnebago
County. We employ many qualified people from all walks of
life. We use a wide variety of vendors, subcontractors and
service provider – all of whom are local. We are local,
approachable, responsible and committed to the Rock River
Valley. We live here and we care.
